Mr. Tommy L.
Wyatt was born July 27, 1937 in Point
Blank in San Jacinto County, Texas.
He graduated from Paul Lawrence Dunbar
High School, Lubbock, Texas in 1956 and
went on to complete his undergraduate
work at Bishop College in Marshall Texas
in 1960. Tommy did additional
graduate work in 1961 at the University
of Washington, in Seattle Washington.
Mr. Wyatt served in the United States
Army and was honorably discharged after
two years service in 1962.
Mr. Wyatt's
varied work experience includes
management level supervision as the
staff manager for Atlanta Life Insurance
Company, co-owner of Anderson-Wyatt
Insurance Agency and then in 1973 became
the founder and owner of The
Villager, newspaper.
Mr. Wyatt's
has supported and is a member of various
professional, political and civic
organizations including membership in
the National Newspaper Publishers
Association, Founder Member to the Texas
Publishers Association, member of the
Texas Coalition of Black Democrats,
member of the Capitol City African
American Chamber of of Commerce; and the
Black Austin Democrats.
He has
served on many boards and commissions
for the City of Austin, Travis County
Community organizations. This includes
the Private Industry Council, Austin
tomorrow Planning Committee, Austin
Cable Commission, and the East 11th
Street Village Association.
Additionally, he has served as President
of the Texas Publishers Association for
three times, and currently serving as
Region IV President for NNPA for second
term, and was President of the Austin
Centex National Business (NBL) for ten
years.
Mr. Wyatt
has been a resident of Austin since 1962
and he enjoys traveling and playing
golf. He currently serves as your
Parliamentarian of the Texas Publishers
Association. |
